The Right to Information Act, 2005 is a law enacted in India to ensure transparency and accountability in the functioning of government institutions. Under this Act, every Indian citizen has the right to request information available with government offices and receive it within the prescribed time limit.

Records, orders, reports, project details, expenditure details, and other information held by public authorities such as Grama Panchayats, Block Panchayats, District Panchayats, government departments, and public sector institutions can be requested under this Act.

Upon receiving an application under the Right to Information Act, the Public Information Officer (PIO) is generally required to provide the information within 30 days. If the applicant is not satisfied with the response, an appeal can be submitted to the Appellate Authority.
